Season start 2026

Well we just about managed to complete our full list of work on the river improvements / essential work this year through the close season. The digger work in the Drayton Bridge area saw us remove around 25 trees which were blocking water flow or causing the loss of a swim. we have gained around 8 swims on the river sections increasing the potential swims to around 110.
A few swims have lift up access through the barbed wire. if you find these then please always ensure the top gate is down and locked before leaving.
As with all anglers we are never happy with the weather and the start of the season is proving tough with low water levels and hot sun . Even so the first matches have produced weight into the 4lb mark with anglers catching around 100 fish to give these weights. The catches seem to show that we have a lot of recruitment with young roach, dace and chub. Over the years these young fish will grow on. Please take care of the young fish as you want to catch these as they grow. To this end please consider whether you need to use a keep net when pleasure fishing. Also where possible please use barbless hook as again this will cause far less damage to our fish stocks.
In the matches all anglers are advised to lift the bottom ring of the keep net through and then tip into weigh slings , then to place in landing net and return to the water so we can be as careful as possible with the fish.
Enjoy Your angling.
