The weather forecast for Sunday 29th September was rather ominous with gale force winds & heavy rain due later in the match. This, coupled with a rapidly rising river made for very low expectations for the fishing results. Despite this ten hardy souls decided to brave the elements & fish the John Smith Trophy match at Drayton St. Leonard from 12pm to 5pm. Kevin Smith drew Peg 18 which hadn't been included in any of our previous matches this season as it rarely produces a result until the winter. Completely bucking the trend Kevin recorded a comfortable win with 8lb 10oz which included two "proper" chub with the biggest a fish of 5lb 1oz! Second was Charlie Green with 2lb 7oz from Peg 7, third was Keith Ring from Peg 14 with 2lb 0oz & fourth was Julian Rayment with 1lb 15oz from Peg 9. Only 5 anglers made it to the end of the match as the other 5 packed up early in atrocious weather with torrential rain & gale force winds which made fishing virtually impossible!
