The Ken Cook Cup match was due to be fished on Sunday 19th January at Chiselhampton. With the River Thame flooded out onto the fields & a backlog of matches building up the decision was made to switch the match to the carp lake at Berrick Salome with the draw at 9am & fishing from 10am to 3pm. A hard frost on the Saturday night before the match had left a very thin layer of ice on parts of the lake but six anglers decided to fish the match. Predictably the fishing improved as the match progressed & anglers that had sat without a bite began to see some action in the final two hours. Comfortable winner was Roger Smith who fished two hair-rigged 8mm krill pellets in the deeper water for 30lb 8oz. Roger put a dissolving pva bag loaded with pellets on the hook & caught four good sized carp averaging 7.6lb each. Second was Keith Nash also with four smaller carp on legered red maggot for 16lb 3oz. Third was Kevin Smith who also legered red maggot with three carp for 12lb 10oz. To prove the point that the fishing was improving later in the day Kevin stayed fishing after the match had finished & hooked a further three carp between 3.15pm & 4.15pm landing two of them.
