Only 6 anglers fished the Neil Ring Memorial Cup match at Drayton Bridge from 9am - 2pm on Sunday 14/1/18. The river was fining down after recent flood conditions which had forced the cancellation of the Cuddesdon Cup match the previous weekend. Conditions on the day were such that the river was only just fishable & really needed a few more days for the water volumes to drop. Despite the extra flow the water was surprisingly clear. Missed bites, dropped fish & dry nets were the order of the day as the match was won by Kevin Smith with his only bite of the day in Peg 19 which resulted in a small chub of 2oz. Most frustrated angler on the day was match secretary Bryan "Otter" Ball on Peg 15 who lost a very big fish which broke his 5lb hooklength "like cotton". He then went on to miss three "proper" chub bites before finally hooking an estimated 3lb chub which came off the hook as he was about to net it! On a positive note his furry acquaintances didn't put in an appearance to mess up his swim! The cancelled Cuddesdon Cup match has been re-scheduled for Sunday 21st January. Suggest you contact Bryan Ball or Geoff Ring on Saturday 20/1/18 to confirm final arrangements, telephone numbers are on your permit.
