Match Blog 8/10/17 John Smith Trophy

12 anglers fished the John Smith Trophy match at Drayton St.Leonard from 8am to 1pm. Eventual winner was Bryan Ball from Peg 13 who had an eventful day hooking 3 "proper" chub on pole fished red maggot and losing all 3 despite increasing the breaking strain of his hooklength after each fish was lost! In desperation Bryan put out a leger rod fishing worm and managed to finally put a chub in his keepnet for a total weight of 4lb 3oz. Second was Julian Rayment with 2lb 9oz, third was Kevin Smith with 1lb 14oz and fourth was Roy Barber with 1lb 4oz.
