We are working through a list of improvements for our anglers through the close season and if anyone is available on a weekend all help would be appreciated. We have repaired P2 platform at chiselhampton and installed new walkway. P8 has been cleared of willows, P11 new platform in a better position, general trees and branches cut and a new platform at P27 which makes the swim fishable with a bit of extra water on the river.
Drayton bridge has a new swim and platform and walkway P12, with new new platform and walkway at P13. There are also several new styles to make access easier. General branch cutting and repaired platform at P 23.
Drayton farm has new platforms and walkways at P21 and P22 , these used to be the old Drayton Bridge swims P26 & 27. We have installed steps and more levelled areas at P1 - P4. Fallen ash tree removed from P4.
Cuddesdon. General tree and branch cutting, P5 & P7 platform repaired, tree in P9 cut out, Tree removed from P12 with new platform, P15 tree cutting so can now be fished.
There were also 1000 chub, roach and bream introduced into the Chiselhampton stretch over the winter period from the EA's Calverton site.
We will also continue our trapping of signal crayfish through the year. In general these traps should not be in areas which would affect the fishing of a swim but if you need to pull one to the side then this is ok but leave it in the water.
The club is involved in a water vole restoration project in conjunction with The River Thame Conservation Trust. The first part of this is to trap mink and eradicate. So far 47 mink have been dispatched on the Thame over the past year. If you come across a trap in a floating black raft then please do not touch. If any of our members have sittings of Mink ( or water voles ) on the river then please contact Richard.
As usual, we will be running matches throughout the season and we ask all members to respect that we will close these sections 3 days prior to a match, This will still leave approximately 75 other swims available for pleasure fishing. All members are welcome to attend matches and this is a great way to learn about the swims along our river sections.
Looking forward to the new season and if you have any queries regarding the club or waters then please contact Richard Borrell.
